Nostalgia

Visualising The Intangible

2 0 2 5 AGDA Finalist

This project began as an etymological and visual exploration of the word “Nostalgia.” After deeply researching its history and meaning, the challenge
was to move beyond a simplistic, literal representation and instead create a graphic system that acted as a direct parallel to the elusive, intangible nature of the emotion itself. The final deliverable was a complete packaging solution designed to convey the word’s expressive essence.

This approach led me to the concept of using concrete poetry to physically represent nostalgia. Through layering text in a dynamic interplay of differing sizes
and typefaces, my aim was to replicate the fragmented and multi-layered nature of memory.

This concept was then developed into a candle design as the power of nostalgia often lies within in its sensory triggers—particularly the sense of smell, which has a unique ability to evoke memory. The resulting candle box, with its embossed concrete poetry, serves as a
physical counterpart to this elusive emotion.
It transforms a deeply felt, abstract concept into a
tactile experience, offering a tangible element hinting
at something more profound & just beyond reach.
